Tyees Sign Don Pries

[Victoria Colonist, Feb. 25]
Don Pries, valued utility player with Victoria Tyees last season, phoned business manager Reg Patterson yesterday and agreed to terms for his 1953 contract.
Pries, who has just completed a successful season of Winter League baseball in the San Francisco area where he won the batting championship for the second straight year with an average of .425, said he was eager to report to the Tyee training camp. He is bringing with him three or four rookie prospects from the Winter League for tryouts with the Tyees.
Pries is the third member of last year’s club to agree to terms. Outfielder Bob Moniz and catcher Milt Martin previously accepted their salary offers.
Manager Cec Garriott, meanwhile, has signed another Los Angeles youngster for a tryout. He is Billy Mosseau, 21, who can play either outfield or third base. He is five feet 11 inches tall and weighs 170 pounds.
Seattle Rainiers have requested an exhibition game against the Tyees at Sonoma on March 28. As this is the day scheduled to open, the opening date may be advanced a couple of days to enable the players to get settled before meeting the Rainiers.
