YAKIMA — The Yakima Bears and the Spokane Indians traded Western International League baseball victories here Sunday, the locals winning the opener 6-0 and the Indians the abbreviated nightcap 3-1.
Howard Flinn, Yakima twirler, was the whole show in the first game as he pitched the three-hit shutout, contributed a single and a double to Yakima's hit column and scored two runs himself.
The only hits off Flinn's offerings were Jim Command's triple in the second, single in the Wilbur Johnson's fourth and Jim Brown's one-bagger in the seventh.
In the second game, Yakima Starter Jack Rial gave up Spokane's three runs in the third on doubles by Bill Sheets and Stan Palys, Johnson's triple and Eddie Murphy's single before he was relieved by Jack Thompson, who blanked the Tribe the rest of the way.
The locals got their only run in the fourth when Bob Wellman got aboard on an error, took second on a fielder's choice and scored on Gordie Hernandez' single.
