KENNEWICK — The Wenatchee Chiefs defeated Tri-City in their Western International League series opener here Tuesday night, as Keith Bowman held the Braves to 3 hits.
Bowman was in trouble only once and that was in the first inning when Tri-City scored two runs on two walks, a sacrifice and a single.

EDMONTON, Alta. — The Edmonton Eskimos lost all hope of winning the Western International League's first-half championship Tuesday night when defeated, 5-2, by Calgary.
Before the night's games, third-place Edmonton was only one game behind first-place Salem, which won Tuesday, 5-2, over Vancouver.

VANCOUVER — Salem's Senators swept a twin-bill from the Vancouver Capilanos, 5-2 and 7-6, Tuesday night in Western International League baseball play.
Gene Tanselli lead the Salem attack in the first game, going three for three, including a pair of double, as Dave Dahle tossed a six hitter. Two of the hits were by Frank (Moose) Mascaro, who batted in both Vancouver runs. Milt Smith plated two runs with a single in the third inning.
The Senators took the night game with a run in the 11th inning, but a near-fight between Mascaro and Smith in the third inning proved to be a highlight.
Mascaro had rolled into third like a Mack truck and was tagged out by Smith—but not before he attempted to kick the ball out of Smith’s hands and almost got the latter’s teeth instead. Smith said some un-nice things about Mascaro, and the Moose “pinked” his antlers and went for Smith with blood in his eye. Outweighed by 80 pounds, Smith decided it was no place even for a brave man, and it didn’t amount to much after.
Smith went three for six and batted in a pair of runs, while Harvey Storey had a double and two singles for Vancouver.

VICTORIA — Two home runs and a ninth inning error gave the Yakima Bears a 5-4 Western International League baseball victory over the Victoria Tyees here Tuesday night.
The Tyees picked on Eddie Jacome, making his first WIL start, for three straight singles and a run before a man was retired. Successive errors by Phil Steinberg and left fielder Bob Wellman gave Victoria a run in the third and they scored again in the fourth when Bob Moniz followed Lu Branham's double with a base hit.
But Bill Prior, working on two days rest, walked Len Noren to open the fifth and Yakima right fielder Herman Lewis followed with a towering home run. The Bears tied it in the eighth before manager Walt Novick put them ahead with a homer over the centre field fence in the ninth. A needed insurance run came with two out when Moniz dropped Bill McNamara's fly ball and Steinberg followed with a triple.
Moniz' third single of the night brought in a run in the ninth.
