Duncan Youth Gets Chance With Tyees

[Victoria Colonist, Feb. 15, 1953]
At least two Vancouver Island youngsters will get a chance with the Victoria Tyees at their spring training camp at Sonoma, Cal.
Business manager Reg Patterson announced last night that Ralph Branting, youthful Duncan catcher, will get a tryout and is to join the club in Sonoma on March 28. Berlyn Hodges, young Victoria southpaw, is also set for a WIL tryout with the Tyees.
Branting, who was recommended by Charlie Stroulger, one-time semi-pro shortstop star, had been sought by the St. Louis Browns but decided to cast his lot with the Victoria club.
Patterson also announced that manager Cec Garriott had lined up a number of prospects in the Los Angeles area and that two or three should be able to “make” the club.
