Tyees Re-Sign Cece; Other Deals

Cec Garriott Will Return
VICTORIA, Dec. 3, 1952—Victoria Tyees of the Western International Baseball League have signed player-manager Cece Garriott for another season.
Business manager Reg Patterson Wednesday announced from Phoenix, where both are attending the meetings of the National Association, that Garriott had signed his contract.
Outside of that report, there was little Western International League news today.
The Tri-City Athletic Association announced that it had purchased the Tri-City Braves for $26,000 and will operate the club in the W.I.L. next season. All stock was purchased from general manager Dick Richards and notes were given to the other major stockholders, who own one-seventh interest.
Tri-City fans collected $12,000 toward the purchase. The association will start another drive to raise $28,000 to provide working capital and to pay off some of the notes.
Wenatchee Chiefs made the only other news by announcing that catcher Walt Pocekay had been sold to the San Diego Padres of the Pacific Coast League.

McCormick, who played with
Wenatchee last year, was signed as a playing manager.

Chiefs To Sign McCormick as Manager
WENATCHEE, Nov. 26—The Wenatchee Western International League baseball club’s drive to raise $20,000 to pay past team debts and assure a team for 1953 has been successful.
President Paul Thomas announced Wednesday that the goal has been reached and that Frankie Dasso, acting general manager for the past two months, has been given a year’s contract.
Dasso will attend the minor league meetings in Phoenix, Ariz., starting December 1 and outfielder Mike McCormick, who played with Portland of the Coast League last year, will be signed as playing-manager for next season, Thomas added.

Wenatchee Deadline Moved

Chiefs Extend Money Drive; Past $16,000
WENATCHEE, Nov. 11—A drive by baseball fans to raise $20,000 to save their Wenatchee Western International League baseball franchise has been extended to November 26.
Al Libke, former Coast League and major league player, said the old deadline of November 12 was extended two weeks when it was found the team was $20,000 in the red rather than $16,000 as first determined.
Libke says the drive now has passed the $16,000 mark.
Meanwhile, general manager Frankie Dasso announced agreement is expected shortly with Mike McCormick, outfielder with the Pacific Coast League Portland Beavers, to serve as player-manager with the Chiefs in 1953.
Dasso and McCormick were also teammates with the Cincinnati Reds several seasons ago.
